The « Association pour la Restauration de la Tombe de l'Abbé Saunière » (Society for the Restoration of Abbé Saunière's Grave) was launched in September 2002 (registered at the Journal Officiel on October 5th, 2002) in Rennes-le-Château. Its goal, as set out in article two (2) of its statutes, is "to restore the grave of Berenger Saunière, priest at Rennes-le-Château (Aude) and, if possible, the grave of Marie Desnarnaud, his maidservant" ; but, furthermore, the society will also strive to preserve the material and spiritual heritage left behind by Abbé Saunière. The Society's chairman, Professor Yves Lignon, head of Toulouse's Laboratory of Parapsychology, is assisted by Philippe Marlin, of the association "l'Oeil du Sphinx"  and Torkain, of the Atelier Empreinte bookshop, in Rennes-le-Château.

The restoration works which are planned at Rennes-le-Château will, of course, conform to existing regulations. To this end, the Society will contact any remaining members of Berenger Saunière's family to keep them informed of the Society's intentions and, wherever possible, seek their advice.

A webpage dedicated to this project can be found at : www.oeildusphinx.com/ARTBS.html

In the future, depending on the success of their fundraising activities, the Society will consider the possibility of organizing an annual scientific symposium, in or around Rennes-le-Château, to examine the case of Berenger Saunière and its historical context.

Thank you for your interest and generosity.
