Rennes-le-Chateau
Castle
In 1231,
during the Albigensian crusade, Rennes became the property of Pierre
de Voisins, his son Pierre II and his wife Jeanne inherited it from
him.
In the 14th
century, Jeanne de Voisins married Sicard de Marquefave who becomes
the new master of Rennes.
In 1422,
Blanche de Marquefave married Pierre-Raymond d'Hautpoul. This family
owned the castle for several centuries.
In 1752, one
of the daughters of Hautpoul-Rennes married a descendant of the family
Hautpoul-Félines. From this moment on, the castle will be inhabited.
On September
2nd 1816, the castle which then belonged to Marie Anne Elizabeth
d'Hautpoul was sold by auction to Julie Avignon for 52 000F. Julie
Avignon was Michel Captier's wife, and the latter became the mayor of
Rennes in 1826. In 1827, the castle was sold to brothers Dalbies from
Couiza.
Nowadays, its
is owned by the Fatin family.
