Is there anyone here that is top notch at genealogy? I have a few ides I would like to test/chase up but need the help of someone who knows about genealogy research...

If so please contact me at djh82uk@pomme-bleu.co.uk

Also if you have any information with regards the bloodline etc, please send as it may well be something I have missed.

Dear djh82uk,
Have you read "Bloodline of the Holy Grail"? If not I suggest that you do. It may hold some new information for you. "Holy Blood Holy Grail" also has some helpful information on bloodlines. Hope it helps.
Prophetess

Taken the hypothesis put forward in the book "Holy Blood, Holy Grail", can anyone answer my question:

If Jesus did indeed have (a) child(ren) and thus a bloodline of Jesus survived after his death and if these descendants did indeed believe Jesus to be mortal, why would these people and their adherents (like, it seems, the Priory of Sion) would be so insistent on regaining a crown for this bloodline?

Another supplementary question. I've heard here and there talk about a brother of Jesus. In howfar is it proven that Jesus did indeed have a brother or should this be considered as symbolism? Furthermore, if he was a true historical figure, than what was his exact role? Is there also mention of any of this or at least a vague hint in one of the books in the Bible or other biblical literature?

Surely if Jesus had a brother, and the Bible says that Joseph and Mary had other children as well as hinting at an actual twin, then it is not necessary to postulate marriage or direct descendants through his line.

It is VERY likely that there are now descendants of Jesus living and that they are aware of it, IF he was a historical figure (ie human) as scholars believe.

In short - the fuss about the bloodline is a non sequtur, if Jesus existed he most likely has hundreds of descendants and it's no big deal. The secret (if it is exists) must be something else.

Wasn't Thomas (as in 'Doubting Thomas') supposed to have been Jesus' younger brother? It's part of the fuss over the Nag Hammadi Gospels as I understand it.

Well, no big deal for you and me maybe. But don't you think the fact that Jesus would be considered mortal, non-celebat and having children would be a VERY SERIOUS THREAT to Christianity? I would think so, only considering the reactions I got when talking with Christian friends about the hypothesis laid out in the book "Holy Blood, Holy Grail".

Well, I was planning to read into the Nag Hammadi Gospels.

Are there any more important "missing" biblical books, next to the Nag Hammadi and Dead Sea Scrolls?

if the 22 years old dhj is still interested in jesus' blood-line, I suggest her/him to read: "Rex Deus" by Hopkins, Simmans and Wallace-Murphy. There is something about James, the brother of Jesus, who led the Jerusalem Church and had some controverses with the RCC in Rome (historical proof, no thesis!)

The Gospel of Mary was discover in Egypt in the late 1800s separate and before the Nag Hammadi discoveries. It is fragmented but there is still some interesting stuff there. I will try to find a link to it on line or copy it myself. The extant fragments aren't very long.

How is this book Rex Deus? Can you give me a background on it, I am very interested if it can shed some light on this subject. Also does anyone know if the Gospel of mary was ever translated and published? I would be interested in reading it also. merci

The Gospel of Mary Magdalene (if you talk about that one) has only 27 pages in english and I think it is possible to find it somewhere in the net.

Yes, Eginolf, you are right. Actually, I didn't comment on the books. The first one I list, the one by LeLoup was a bit of a disapointment. The actual surviving text is quite short, as you point out. What fills up the book is LeLoup's interpretation of it. It strikes me as a very "personal" interpretation and no more valid than the interpretation that modern Conservative Christians put on the the Canonical Gospels.

The extent text of 'Mary' should be taken for what it is, but I am afraid, like most texts from this period, it is very difficult, if not impossible, to determine the origin or author(s) of 'Mary.'
